Delivery + QC

BEFORE EXPORT

  • Set in and out points or make sure there are no stray clips outside of where the edit start and stops
  • Make sure the sequence is correctly named, typically expors should keep the name of the sequence.

EXPORT SETTINGS FOR DELIVERY

  • ProRes 422 (.mov)
    • Format: Quicktime
    • Preset: Apple Prores 422
    • Check “Match Source” in most cases (In most cases that should be: Resolution: 1920×1080, Framerate: 23.976, Field Order: Progressive, Aspect: Square)
  • H.264 (.mp4)
    • Usually H.264 deliverables are made after we export and QC the ProRes exports. When the ProRes files are ready, bring them into Media Encoder and transcode at the following settings to make .mp4s
    • Format: H.264
    • Preset: Match Source – High Bitrate
    • Keep all settings to “Match Source” except Bitrate Settings
      • Change to: VBR 2 Pass, Target Bitrate 20 mbps, Max Bitrate 20 mbps
  • Notes:
    • Make sure Export Audio is checked and correct audio settings were applied
    • Make sure the export is going to the correct folder
      • Usually: Server > Project > 99 Exports > Folder for todays date > FOR DELIVERY
      • May need to create additional subfolders to further organize on deliveries with many exports.
    • Make sure “Source range” is set to “Sequence In/Out” in the export window if the sequence has in & out points

QC

  • Watch through the exports to make sure the actual edit is correct and there are no edit mistakes
  • Make sure audio is in sync with the video, especially when people are talking on screen.
  • It’s helpful to watch videos with a white background behind them, makes it obvious if there are any issues with the picture not reaching the edge of the frame.
  • Pay special attention to any text on screen. Do one watch through where you pause on each frame with text to double check for any spelling mistakes or typos.
  • Make sure there are no black flash frames at the beginning or end of the export, or any flash frames anywhere else in the video.
  • Look for render errors (typically lines going across the screen or red frames)
    • Sometimes these errors are baked into the color renders, so check the sequence in the project to see if it is an export error or color render error.

USING DROPBOX FOR DELIVERY

  • Copy the exports (and folders + subfolders if applicable) to the correct Dropbox folder.
  • Keep things as organized as possible, ie. FOR DELIVERY folder with the day’s date, separate folders for different edits/cutdown lengths/delivery formats
  • When sending to the client, describe what is included and call out different versions/how they are different
