Color Prep Guidelines

What Offsite needs from you

  1. An instruction file from that locked sequence: XML (preferred), EDL or AAF (alternatively)
  2. Identical Reference MP4 for each sequence to be graded (with same timecode)
  3. Folder or drive with the original media
  4. A Premiere Project File (optional and a bonus)

Preparing your sequence

  • Timeline(s) should be simplified, to one or two tracks
  • Multiclips should be “flattened” in all sequences
  • Remove:
    • Lower thirds, titles, or other graphics
    • Audio files
    • Effects
    • Clips past the outpoint
  • Keep:
    • Crops & Repos
    • Cross-Dissolves
  • Bake in:
    • Speed changed done in AE or Twixtor
  • Review XML translation report for any errors

Transcoded media is always preferred to H264. Please be aware that providing h264 footage may add significant time to the grading process and also inhibit playback ability. H264 Material can be transcoded at original resolution, prores 4444.

In some instances we may request an export of the timeline as a single clip as Prores 444. Whether this is the best route must be discussed on a case by case basis and only when the most used transition is a traditional hard cut.

For projects with varying frame rates, please contact us to discuss:
